- It All Started With Cheesecake: Evelyn Overton found her famous cheesecake recipe from a newspaper clipping in the 1940’s. She was so successful in making her “original” recipe cheesecake she opened a shop out of her Detroit, MI basement and the first unofficial The Cheesecake Factory was born. The first official location opened in 1978 in Beverly Hills.
