Science is objective. You can’t argue with it. That’s why it’s a great way to run your corporate wellness program. Using science as backing for your program allows employees to accept a healthy lifestyle not just as what their employer recommends but also what their doctors recommend as well. Here are three ways to use the science of corporate wellness:
- Back Your Program with Science - Whether you’re promoting healthy lifestyles or specific fitness challenges like 10,000 steps per day, using science to back up your program not only gives concrete evidence to employees but helps them understand the basic principles of a healthy lifestyle.
- Mix Focus On Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation - Make sure your program does not just reward employees. A focus on intrinsic motivation, especially in the beginning phase of a wellness program, allows employees to fully understand how healthy living affects their bodies and lives. This understanding is an important foundation that should supersede rewards.
- There Is No One Size Fits All - Give employees’ options for getting active. Not everyone is going to be comfortable taking a Zumba class (they always make me feel silly and uncoordinated!) or training for a 5k. Some people may want to do yoga, or participate in a lunchtime walking group. Giving employees different ways to get active is a great way to ensure engagement and enthusiasm.
