For the fourth year in a row, the Red Cross enters a new season of Red Cross Racing: an online blood donor rewards program designed to reward loyal donors and encourage participation in the program.
In 2010, members donated more than $100,000 to the Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces, which provides items like phone cards and comfort kits to military families.

In 2010 people not only helped save lives by deciding to donate blood through the Red Cross at Western Michigan University’s Bernard Center, but a donor won a $500 gift card. The donor's name was randomly selected from more than 10,000 individuals who attempted to donate blood or platelets last summer.

For some (I'm one of them), giving blood is a part of a normal annual giving plan, incentives garner more donors into this category and perhaps they will continue to give on a regular basis, ultimately saving more lives.
